What a Swim Spa Is

A hot tub and a pool in one compact unit

A swim spa is not a bigger hot tub and not a smaller pool — it is a purpose-built hybrid. One end holds a fully featured Wellis hot tub with hydrotherapy seats and massage jets; the other end is a deeper, longer swim zone where a continuous counter-current lets you swim endlessly against the flow in roughly a third of the footprint of a conventional pool.

Endless swimming in place

Adjustable counter-current generates a steady flow from 1 to 4 km/h. Swim for as long as you want without ever reaching a wall. Resistance scales from beginner to triathlete pace.

Full hot tub section

Separate hot tub zone with hydrotherapy seats, massage jets, LED lighting, and Bluetooth audio on most models — identical features to a standalone Wellis Whirlpool.

Year-round operation

Full-foam insulation keeps water at 36-38°C through Central European winters. Typical monthly heating cost in DE/AT: €50-90 with a well-fitted cover.

1/3 the footprint of a pool

6m × 2.3m fits into most back gardens without excavation. No building permit needed in Germany for units under 100 m³ (all Wellis Swim Spas: 6-8.5 m³).

Low maintenance

6,000-8,500 litres total — a fraction of a pool's water volume. Weekly chemical use is measured in grams, not kilograms. Ozone treatment standard on Beach Club and above.

Plug-in installation

Standard 400V / 16A connection, no special plumbing, no dedicated pool room. Most installations complete in under one day once site is prepared.

The StreamLife Range

Every Wellis Swim Spa series, compared

Wellis produces five swim spa series under the StreamLife brand. The core differences are length, swim current system, and hot tub feature level. Shorter models (Elba, Danube) are ideal for garden installation and recreational swimming; longer premium models (Amazonas, Rio Grande) are engineered for serious swim training.

Elba — 4.5m entry

The compact entry into StreamLife. 4.5m long, 5-person capacity, W-Flow standard jets. Deluxe and Cinema trims available. From €17,999.

Danube — 4.5m with RiverJet

Beach Club — 6m mid-range

The family favourite. 6m length, separated hot tub zone with 6 seats, swim zone with W-Flow. Deluxe and Premium trims. From €23,169.

Amazonas — 5.5m premium

Swim Current Systems

W-Flow vs. RiverJet vs. Grand Prix

The counter-current is the defining feature of any swim spa — and Wellis offers three distinct systems. Choose based on how seriously you intend to swim. All three are adjustable from gentle to elite pace; they differ in the quality of the flow and the total power behind it.

W-Flow (standard)

4 to 6 powerful adjustable jets driven by the main circulation pumps. Good recreational swimming, moderate resistance. Standard on Elba W-Flow, Beach Club, Danube W-Flow, Amazonas W-Flow. Turbulent flow — ideal for casual lap swimming.

RiverJet (premium)

Dedicated 2.5-3 kW swim pump generating a wide, laminar, river-like current up to 50 cm wide. Smooth non-turbulent flow, significantly stronger and more consistent than W-Flow. Standard on Danube Riverjet, Amazonas Riverjet.

Grand Prix (flagship)

Triple-pump system generating the widest and strongest current in the Wellis range. Laminar flow up to 1 metre wide — allows two people to swim side by side. Exclusive to Amazonas Grand Prix.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Wellis Swim Spas

A Wellis Swim Spa is a hybrid between a hot tub and a swimming pool. It combines a full-size hot tub section with massage jets and hydrotherapy seats together with a larger swim zone that features a continuous counter-current generator — allowing endless swimming against the current in a compact 4.5 to 6 metre unit.

W-Flow is Wellis' standard swim current system using 4 to 6 adjustable jets powered by the main pumps. RiverJet is the premium option — a dedicated swim pump that generates a wider, smoother, and significantly more powerful laminar current, designed for serious swim training and triathlon preparation.

Wellis Swim Spas are available in three lengths: Elba at 4.5 metres (most compact), Danube and Beach Club at 5.5 to 5.9 metres, and Amazonas and Rio Grande at 6 metres. All models are around 2.3 metres wide and 1.4 metres deep.

Yes. Every Wellis Swim Spa is designed for year-round outdoor use in Central European climates. Full-foam Scandinavian insulation is standard, maintaining water temperature 36-38°C even in freezing winter conditions, and energy consumption stays within reasonable limits with a well-fitted cover.

Wellis Swim Spas range from €17,999 for the Elba series (4.5m, entry) to €46,899 for the Rio Grande (6m, premium). Most buyers in Germany and Austria choose the Beach Club Deluxe at €23,169 or the Danube Riverjet at €25,999 as the best balance of size, swim system, and price. All prices include 19% VAT.

In most German federal states (Bundesländer), outdoor swim spas under 100 m³ water volume are treated as movable installations rather than pools and do not require a building permit (Baugenehmigung). Wellis Swim Spas hold 6,000 to 8,500 litres — well below this threshold. Always check local municipality (Gemeinde) rules before installation.

TwoRelax delivery includes curbside delivery to all DE and AT postal codes, palletised and fully insured. White-glove crane placement is available from €600 on top. The swim spa arrives factory-sealed from Wellis Hungary with full warranty documentation and setup instructions in German and English.

A swim spa takes 1/3 the footprint of a traditional pool, costs roughly half to purchase, uses a fraction of the water and chemicals, reaches operating temperature in hours rather than days, and is available year-round for swim training. The trade-off: you swim in place against a current rather than covering distance.

Yes. All Wellis Swim Spas are dual-zone: one person can swim in the swim zone while 3-5 others use the hot tub section simultaneously. Beach Club and Elba models feature a separate integrated hot tub zone with dedicated seats and massage jets.

Up to 10 years on the acrylic shell, 3 years on the frame and plumbing, 2 years on electronics, pumps, and the swim-current system. All warranty service is handled directly within the EU through authorised dealers like TwoRelax — no transatlantic shipping delays.

The Wellis StreamLife swim spa line has been in production for over a decade and is one of the most mature swim-spa ranges in Europe. Real-world experience across the 10-model range: the W-Flow system handles casual and family swimming well, RiverJet delivers a smooth laminar current strong enough for triathlon training, and Grand Prix produces the widest flow in the Wellis range (two people can swim side by side).
