Buying Your Wellis Hot Tub Online: What Actually Happens After Delivery

Most Wellis hot tubs are hardwired rather than plugged into a wall socket. Only a small number of models are true plug-and-play. If you're not sure which category yours falls into, check the spec sheet on the product page or ask us before delivery day. For the majority of tubs that do require hardwiring, this is the single part of the process where we'll tell you, without exception, to bring in a licensed electrician.

There are two reasons for this. First, it's a safety requirement: the tub needs a dedicated circuit, typically a 230V/32A single-phase supply or a 400V/3×16A three-phase setup depending on the model, run through an external 30mA RCD (residual current device) before it ever reaches the tub. Second, it's a warranty requirement. Wellis will ask for proof of professional installation if you ever need to make a claim on an electronic component, so this isn't a step worth cutting corners on.

In practice, your electrician will remove one of the cabinet side panels, run the cable down through the base of the tub, and connect it to the control box inside. It's a straightforward job for anyone qualified, usually no more than an hour or two of work. Once they've connected everything and switched the breaker off again, their part is done, and so is the only part you were ever required to outsource.

With the electrics sorted but the power still off, there are two quick checks worth doing inside the cabinet:

Neither of these requires tools beyond your hands, and both are things people check without any prior hot tub experience.

Once it's full, flip the breaker and let the control panel boot up. Run the pumps briefly on both low and high speed to clear any last air pockets from the lines. While the panels are still off, take a minute to look for any dripping around the unions you tightened earlier. Better to catch a slow leak now than after the cabinet's screwed back together.

This is the same routine anyone with a hot tub does on a regular basis, so it's worth getting comfortable with it from day one. Test the tap water with a strip or liquid kit, adjust total alkalinity into the 80 to 120 ppm range, then bring pH to somewhere between 7.2 and 7.6. Only once those two are balanced should you add your chlorine or bromine shock to sanitise the fresh fill. Pop the cover on, set your temperature, and give it 12 to 24 hours to come up to heat.

Everything above is well within reach for most people. The one genuine grey area is the cabinet panels and levelling.
